College Park Partial Renovation
This home suffered major tree damage during a storm in July 2022. We had completed several projects in the subdivision of Berwyn Heights in College Park including repairing a home damaged by several large trees during the same storm. Upon being notified in February 2024 by past clients in the community of a home still not repaired, I was asked to price the work with the possibility of the city or state contributing funds. By March of 2025, no contribution had occurred. The family was disadvantaged and did not have money to repair their home. There were sections closed off, wet from three years of weather and with tarps on the roof torn away. There was no central heating system. During this time period, the father was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment.
I decided to renovate the home with the thought of repairing the broken roof rafters, replacing the roof on the home and garage, installing a 90% efficient gas furnace, encapsulating and conditioning the crawl space and renovating the front enclosed porch and the one bedroom, both of which were closed off an not habitable. We had to completely demolish the front enclosed porch and rebuild it as it was severely rotted. We found all sides of the home severely wet, rotten and infested with termites. The rim board and sill plate was also severely rotten. We replaced all of the windows and doors, all of the siding and opened the newly rebuilt enclosed front porch to the living room with LVL beams. I did not charge the owners for this work.
